Network Visualization

Network VisualizationProject: In June 2014 I took the course “Data, Math, Visualization, and Interpretation of Networks: An Introduction” at the University of Victoria’s Digital Humanities Summer Institute. This course, which offered an introduction to network visualization tools NodeXL and Gephi, as well as the theory and mathematics behind network visualization, was also my first attempt at using distant reading methods to explore The Western Home Monthly.

Deliverables: I produced the following visualization of the six magazine issues in which Martha Ostenso’s novel Wild Geese was serialized, between August 1925 and January 1926, an effective visual example of the patterns of repetition and difference that characterize individual issues of a serial text.WHM_wildgeeseSkills and Tools: Gephi (network visualization), NodeXL (network visualization)
